Danny Reneau

Danny Reneau is a watercolor artist and illustrator based in Lincoln, Nebraska.  In an age of digital perfection, Danny’s work embraces the happy accidents that come from hand painted illustrations.  Newspaper strips and comic books molded much of his artistic perspective, with strong linework and heavy blacks contrasting with vivid, bright colors.  Music, nature, and parenthood are a constant influence on his work, along with the work of Bill watterson, Jim Lee, Todd McFarland and the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements.

Danny’s work was chosen to be a part of a permanent collection with History Nebraska, commemorating the historic year of 2020, as well as the 2020 Public Arts Lincoln Billboard project, chosen for a Mayor’s award for their work within the community during the pandemic. In 2021 his work was chosen to be the featured theme for the Mayor’s Arts Awards, creating each of the 14 awards for the recipients.  His work has helped raise money for charitable organizations both locally and internationally, including the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, and the International Organization for Suicide Prevention.

He has illustrated two children’s books, “The Magic of Winter” and “Max and the Listening Tree”.

Danny was born and raised in Kansas and received his degree in Film making and Video Production from the Art Institute of Seattle.

In addition to painting, Danny enjoys going on walks through local nature reserves with his family, discovering great local art and music, and introducing his three young boys to 90’s rock and roll whether they are in the mood for it or not.
